At a time when reality disappears behind filtered images and music is increasingly shaped by algorithms, Odd Couple present a warmly hued new album, Rush Hour of Life, that calls to mind an era when music was still made by hand—raw, playful, imperfect and therefore convincing. The result is a kind of medicine against digital surfaces and shortened content. Listening to this album is like taking a trip—not to escape reality, but to feel again the depth of the moment. To the question 'Who is speaking here?' one should answer: here speaks talented, creative Berliners aged between 28 and 34, who, as in every new phase of life, find themselves confronted with the question of which damned tracks to set for such a fluid existence. What does the so-called 'rush hour of life' look like for restless musicians whose momentum was partly badly slowed by a pandemic? This album bears witness to the gaps left by relentless goal-optimization and proves that life contains anarchic thoughts and feelings that must be endured—things for which no Instagram slogan offers help. Rather than offering answers, Odd Couple pose plenty of questions.
