Manchester writer-musician Antony Szmierek brings his blend of spoken word, indie pop and electronica to Manchester Academy 1 on Friday 23 October 2026. Coming from the city’s poetry and performance scenes, he delivers talk-sung lines with an almost rap cadence, turning everyday details and urban snapshots into compact songs. His 2023 EP Poems To Dance To set the tone: conversational verses give way to melodic choruses over synths, house-leaning pulses and slow hip-hop grooves.
On stage, Szmierek builds on that narrative drive, pacing stories across beats that leave space for the voice, shifting from quiet monologue to hook-led release. The set links diaristic pieces with more expansive cuts, arranged to keep the words in front while the rhythm carries them. Backed by a group or in a stripped setting, the focus stays on timing, phrasing and a direct connection with the audience.
