Info
On 10 October 2026, John Cooper Clarke brings his rapid‑fire spoken word to Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts. The Salford-born poet emerged with the late-70s punk scene and forged a lean, fast, deadpan style that sits between stand-up timing and street chronicle. On stage he fires off tight, rhythmic pieces, often a cappella, where black humour and social satire snap into place with a precise sense of cadence.
Expect touchstones like Beasley Street and Evidently Chickentown, alongside more recent texts and the much-quoted I Wanna Be Yours, brought to a new audience via Arctic Monkeys. Decades of gigs and recordings feed into a set built on sharp observation, quick wit and dense wordplay, sometimes edged with music, always about the pulse of the language. A night with a long-standing figure of British performance poetry, up close and in full flow at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, on 10 October 2026.
