White Ladder refined that balance and fixed songs like Babylon, This Year’s Love and Sail Away at the heart of his catalogue. Since then he has moved between stripped-back writing and more atmospheric textures across albums from A New Day at Midnight and Life in Slow Motion to Gold in a Brass Age and Skellig. On stage, his grainy voice sits over acoustic guitar, piano and subtle loops, keeping the songs close to their core while opening them up for a wide audience. His live sets often span early cuts and later material, carried by steady grooves and understated dynamics.
The Divine Comedy, led by Northern Irish songwriter Neil Hannon, brings a chamber-pop palette where strings, piano and dry wit meet British pop craft. From Liberation and Promenade to Casanova, Fin de Siècle and Office Politics, the project builds literate, melodic songs that play with character and everyday detail. On stage, Hannon fronts a flexible band, steering between orchestral flourishes and crisp pop arrangements, with storytelling as the through line.
