Toploader

Toploader bring their piano-led alt rock to Kendal on 9 October 2026 at Brewery Arts. Formed on England’s south coast in the late 90s, the band carved out a melodic sound with the keyboard front and centre, blending alternative rock, pop and touches of soul and funk. Singer-keyboardist Joseph Washbourn and guitarist Dan Hipgrave portent songs with clear hooks and singable choruses, from the early days of Onka’s Big Moka to later releases Only Human and Seeing Stars.

On stage, expect a set that glides between warm, mid-tempo grooves and punchier guitar moments, with space for the timeless sway of Dancing in the Moonlight alongside newer tracks. Years spent touring have tightened the interplay and kept the catalogue alive, so the show balances the songs that made their name with material that maps where they are now. A snapshot of British pop rock shaped by the post-Britpop era, delivered with the direct, piano-driven energy that has defined Toploader from the start.
