Info

David Gray brings his understated songwriting to The Piece Hall in Halifax on 5 July 2026. Since White Ladder, his music blends acoustic guitar, piano and discreet electronics, porté by a voice with a distinctive grain. Expect Babylon, This Year’s Love and Sail Away alongside later songs from Life in Slow Motion, Mutineers, Gold in a Brass Age and Skellig, with arrangements that keep the melodies clear and the pulse unforced.

Sharing the bill, The Divine Comedy is Neil Hannon’s chamber-pop project, where orchestral colours, piano and a dry narrative sense frame precise hooks. The set navigates early touchstones like Promenade and Casanova, passes through Fin de Siècle, and lands on more recent pages from Foreverland and Office Politics. Live, the group moves easily from small-scale storytelling to fuller textures, letting the lyrics lead while the arrangements lift and shade.

Two approaches to sharp, literate pop and folk-rooted songwriting meet for an evening built on songs that stay close to the essentials, at a venue made for them.
