Info
Haircut 100 bring their sharp, jazz-funk-tinged pop back to the stage at York Barbican in York on 8 May 2026. Born in Beckenham at the dawn of the 80s, the group shaped songs on clean guitars, supple basslines, bright sax hooks and busy percussion, somewhere between new wave, new pop and Brit-funk. Led by songwriter and singer Nick Heyward alongside Les Nemes and Graham Jones, later joined by Phil Smith, Marc Fox and drummer Blair Cunningham, they found their stride across a run of early singles and the album Pelican West in 1982.
After Heyward’s departure in 1983, the band reshaped for Paint and Paint, then stepped away. Since 2023, Haircut 100 have returned to the road with Heyward back out front with Nemes, Jones and Cunningham, reconnecting with a catalogue where melodic ease rides on taut, danceable grooves. On stage, that chemistry favours crisp rhythms and choruses that stick, with sax and guitar trading bright colours over a tight engine room. Expect a set that revisits their early 80s material and the Pelican West era, played with the lightness and snap that defined them from the start.
