Info
On 11 October 2026 at University of Wolverhampton at The Halls in Wolverhampton, Amon Amarth lead a night of Scandinavian melodic death metal with Soilwork.
Amon Amarth, formed in 1992 in Tumba, root their sound in Norse mythology, with Johan Hegg’s deep growls carried by the melodic twin guitars of Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg. From Once Sent from the Golden Hall and Versus the World to With Oden on Our Side, the band has built a narrative, riff-driven approach designed for the big stage. The 2010s brought Surtur Rising, Deceiver of the Gods and the concept record Jomsviking, followed by Berserker and The Great Heathen Army, which broaden their palette while keeping the melodeath core intact. Live, they bring Viking-themed staging, tight choruses and sturdy grooves.
Soilwork, from Helsingborg and led by Björn “Speed” Strid, push melodeath toward a modern, melodic and rhythmic space. After early ferocity on Steelbath Suicide and The Chainheart Machine, they sharpened hooks and synth textures on Natural Born Chaos and Figure Number Five, then folded thrash and rock energy into Stabbing the Drama and Sworn to a Great Divide. The double album The Living Infinite, then The Ride Majestic, Verkligheten and Övergivenheten widened the dynamics with clean choruses, angular riffs and atmospheric layers. Live, that mix balances impact and nuance.
