Info

Steel Pulse live at Eremo Club, Molfetta, on 12 April 2026. Formed in 1975 in Handsworth, a Birmingham neighbourhood tied to Caribbean communities, they defined a British roots-based reggae: prominent bass, tight offbeats, interwoven backing vocals and lyrics addressing racism, inequality and life in the Black diaspora. They emerged in the late 1970s in the climate of Rock Against Racism and in the cross-talk between reggae and punk, setting their course with Handsworth Revolution (1978) and Tribute to the Martyrs (1979).

In the 1980s they broadened their sound with True Democracy (1982), Earth Crisis (1984) and Babylon the Bandit (1986), introducing touches of soul, pop and dancehall inflections without losing their roots grounding. Today the band centres on the voice and guitar of David Hinds and continues to tour a repertoire that blends classics with more recent releases, from African Holocaust (2004) to Mass Manipulation (2019). At Eremo Club the group puts groove, guitars and harmonies front and centre, delivering a tight set that retraces the milestones of a long, still-unfolding story.
