On Friday, April 3, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Covo Club in Bologna, Spiritual Front return for a double set that will include “Spiritual Front Plays The Smiths” and the twentieth anniversary of “Armageddon Gigolo.”
Spiritual Front was born in 2000 as the solo project of Simone H. Salvatori. Initially characterized by a dark, melancholic experimental folk, the sound progressively evolved and has been compared to the work of Nick Cave, Swans and Scott Walker. Between 2003 and 2005 the one-man band transformed into a fully fledged group, refined and compact. Requests for concerts across Europe increased, reflecting the band's artistic growth and the definition of a style described as decadent pop, with a vintage taste and an image influenced by the founder’s passion for cinema.
The themes Simone H. addresses revolve around the search for identity through a turbulent and untamed exploration of sexuality, stories of separations soaked in anger, bitter sarcasm and irony, always pervaded by nihilism and a cutting sense of humor. During this period, the band fused folk, indie rock, tango and country rock into a recognizable mix, as demonstrated by “Armageddon Gigolo” (recorded with musicians from Ennio Morricone’s orchestra) from 2006.
The band contributed to the soundtracks of the TV series Las Vegas and the film Saw 2, as well as to various independent films, theatrical productions and contemporary ballets.
In 2010 they released “Rotten Roma Casino,” which again features musicians from Morricone’s orchestra.
In 2013 the band published two albums: “Open Wounds,” a collection of early works rearranged and remastered, and “Black Hearts in Black Suits,” a concept album of neo-classical chamber pop dedicated to the German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder; some tracks were included in Saverio Di Biagio’s film.
The band then released the double album “Amour Braque,” conceptually inspired by Pasolini, Żuławski, Jarman, Visconti, Téchiné and Fassbinder. It is an examination of romantic and sexual relationships, moving between tenderness and decadence: the term braque can indeed mean “lowlife,” “dirty” or “mean.” “Amour Braque” combines gloomy alternative rock with dark folk, chamber pop and ’60s sounds. The cover was created by the artist Saturno Buttò.
Finally, “The Queen Is Not Dead” is a tribute album to the Manchester band The Smiths.
