Info

On 5 October 2026 at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, Jake Xerxes Fussell brings his distinctive take on American folk to the stage. Raised in Georgia and now based in North Carolina, the singer and guitarist mines vernacular songs and archival field recordings from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, reshaping them with clear, melodic guitar lines and unhurried phrasing that lets the stories breathe. Since his self-titled debut in 2015 on Paradise of Bachelors, he has traced a steady path through What in the Natural World, Out of Sight and Good and Green Again, arriving at When I’m Called, produced by James Elkington. That record gathers a small circle of collaborators, including Ben Whiteley and Joe Westerlund, with guitars from Blake Mills and harmonies from Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb, textures that often echo in his live arrangements.

Fussell and Elkington also wrote the music for Max Walker-Silverman’s feature Rebuilding, released as a Fat Possum soundtrack in 2025, a companion to his ongoing work reinterpreting folk narratives. Special guest Naima Bock joins the bill.
