Info

Montreal’s extreme metal outfit Cryptopsy brings its technical death metal to Whelan’s, Dublin, on 5 August 2026. Formed at the turn of the 1990s from the ashes of Necrosis, the band staked out a place in brutal death with Blasphemy Made Flesh (1994) and None So Vile (1996), shaping a vocabulary of complex song structures, dissonant riffs, abrupt metric shifts and a direct, growled vocal delivery. The late 90s and early 2000s pushed that approach further on Whisper Supremacy (1998) and And Then You’ll Beg (2000), powered by Flo Mounier’s dense, hyper-precise drumming, before Lord Worm’s return for Once Was Not (2005). After testing more modern and metalcore-leaning elements on The Unspoken King (2008), Cryptopsy refocused on tight, technical forms with the self-titled album (2012) and continued along that line on As Gomorrah Burns (2023).

On stage, the quartet threads early cornerstones with recent material, stacking rapid shifts and knotty rhythms with sharp ensemble cohesion. A club date at Whelan’s suits their compact, high-tempo writing, with the band moving from labyrinthine passages to blunt impact while keeping an ear on clarity and precision.
