Info
David Essex plays Vicar Street, Thomas Street, Dublin 8, Ireland, on 19 November 2026. Singer, songwriter and actor, he first stepped into the spotlight on London stages before breaking through with Godspell in 1971, the film That’ll Be the Day and the self‑penned Rock On in 1973. His sound blends glam rock, British pop and rock’n’roll, with flexible vocals and a taste for storytelling. The 70s gave him a run of albums that shaped his catalogue — Rock On, David Essex, All the Fun of the Fair, Out on the Street, Imperial Wizard — where the writing drifted toward a more melodic pop rock.
Parallel to the studio work, Essex built a strong stage profile in musicals: Tommy, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, then the role of Che in Evita in 1978. He kept moving between records, British tours, cinema and TV through the 80s and 90s, releasing Be-Bop the Future and Cover Shot, and later teaming up with Saint Etienne on Tales from Turnpike House in 2005. At Vicar Street, he revisits songs from across these chapters, from early hits to later cuts, carried by that relaxed vocal flow and a focus on narrative hooks that have run through his writing since the start.
