Daniel Bell has been part of the minimal sound since its early days. The American DJ and producer has explored the genre since the early '90s, drawing from Chicago house and avant-garde minimalism and its paragons Philip Glass and Steve Reich. Over the decades, he has remained steady in his approach to DJing, production, and work behind the scenes. From his aliases DBX and Cybersonik (alongside Richie Hawtin) to his own 7th City Distribution, the imprints Accelerate and Elevate, and his role in launching Shake's Frictional and Dopplereffekt's Dataphysix labels.
He is joined by PLO Man, the publicity-averse figure behind Acting Press and one-third of SnPLO. While the imprint was once loosely associated with outsider house of the mid-2010s, the label now occupies a place within today's minimal house landscape, with a distinctly analogue focus. PLO Man's selections follow suit, drifting through minimal, dub, and deep sounds. His biography hints at his connection to music and people: "...the records are the tools that look and sound and feel like a space. I find them in buildings. They keep people together."
Resident Yamour lets the music speak, weaving Detroit, Chicago and dub-informed narratives on wax, while Vlada's austere take on minimal house and techno rounds out the program. In recent years, she has been expanding her palette with two series: dreamslesssweet, blending live performances and DJing at Berlin's Akaoda, and SpeLL, a mix and event platform with a penchant for daytime events.
