Info

After the success of the last Squalo party (an unorthodox italo-disco night that also featured related styles such as house, EBM, synthwave, disco, etc.) with Italoconnection, we present our guest on Saturday, April 18 at Siroco: Alden Tyrell (live) – Clone Records.

The disco and italo sound remain alive thanks to producers like Martijn Hoogendijk, aka Alden Tyrell. He produces from Rotterdam for labels such as Clone and Viewlexx. His roots are in hip hop, but as a producer he has made a name for himself in The Hague’s electro, disco and italo scene. That scene draws from disco and italo and polishes its synths to achieve the characteristic lo-fi Dutch sound. He has collaborated with I-F, whom he remixed on Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass for Fuel Records, and he sometimes takes part in I-F’s Parallax Corporation project. Some of his tracks have been included in mixes by Dave Clarke, who featured Disco Lunar Module on his CD mix World Service 2. In spring 2006 he released the compilation Times Like These (1999–2006) on Clone, featuring vocals by Nancy Fortune and Fred Ventura. That release included tracks such as Hills Of Honolulu, originally issued under his alias A Visitor From Another Meaning, as well as club-oriented pieces like Odessa Theme and Rendez-Vous at Rimini.

Rounding out the night are Antih & Conio, offering a blend of EBM, electro, italo and new wave. Closing the bill is Fer Xplosion, aka Giorgio Toalliter, with an eclectic, “Potro Desbocao”-style sound.

Tyrell returns to italo after years away from the genre, and Squalo presents him live.
