Salif Keïta

Salif Keïta will perform on 25 April 2026 at PLT - Theater Heerlen in Heerlen. The singer from Djoliba (Mali) has carved out a distinctive sound at the intersection of the Manding tradition and afro-pop: kora and balafon alongside electric guitars, brass and percussion, carried by his unmistakable high voice and his roots as a griot. After beginning with the Rail Band and Les Ambassadeurs, he charted a clear solo path with Soro, Ko-Yan and Amen, later followed by Folon, Moffou, M’Bemba, La Différence, Talé and Un autre blanc.

On stage he weaves rhythms from Bamako with pop hooks and subtle electronic hues; restrained moments alternate with danceable passages. You’ll hear classics alongside more recent work, with lyrics that resonate around memory, identity and the position of people with albinism. The band builds a broad sound with kora, percussion and horns, while Keïta’s timbre cuts through the arrangements—sharp and warm at once. An evening in which his years-long search between tradition and contemporary sound comes together: unadorned, with a firm focus on the songs and their pulse.
