Info
On 14 May 2026 DakhaBrakha will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The quartet from Kyiv emerged in the early 2000s at the avant-garde theatre Dakh and has since developed a unique sound they call “ethno-chaos.” Starting from Ukrainian traditional songs, polyphonic singing and dance rhythms, they rework this material with influences from other regions as well as from pop, rock and experimental music. That mix remains close to its source while opening the door to a broader sonic landscape.
From the outset the band has worked closely with director Vladyslav Troitskyi, giving their performances a pronounced theatrical dimension. Think ritual‑inspired costumes, physical presence and an arc of tension that oscillates between concert and performance. Throughout the 2010s DakhaBrakha toured Europe, North America and Asia, crossing the borders between world music, jazz and contemporary music. Their set in Groningen centers on the power of collective singing and pulse, where old melodies are restructured and, in the moment, given what they need: space, rhythm and direct contact with the audience.
