Info

On July 4, 2026 The Bridge City Sinners play at Melkweg, Amsterdam. The band from Portland, Oregon blends traditional folk with the drive and directness of punk, entirely acoustic and centered around vocalist Libby Lux. Banjo, fiddle, double bass and brass form the core of their sound: old-time folk and bluegrass get a dose of street jazz and a dark edge the band themselves call “death folk.” That feeling resonates in their lyrics, where destabilized religious imagery, stories about fringe characters and macabre scenes come together with bone‑dry humor.

On stage The Bridge City Sinners engage the audience, close to the energy of a street brass band yet firmly rooted in contemporary folk and a pronounced DIY ethos. The set moves smoothly between driving two‑step numbers and slower, brooding pieces; fiddle and banjo trace the melodic lines while brass gives the arrangements a subtle shimmer. Since their self-titled debut in 2016, the group has built a consistent run of records: Here’s to the Devil (2019), Unholy Hymns (2021) and In the Age of Doubt (2023) show how their rough acoustic sound and narrative songwriting continually reinforce one another. In Amsterdam they bring that universe to life with concise, directly told songs that can feel as danceable as they are dark.
