Barrington Levy

On 10 May 2026 Barrington Levy will perform at Poppodium P60 in Amstelveen. The Jamaican singer, raised in Clarendon, left the duo The Mighty Multitude in the late 1970s to work solo with producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes in Kingston. With albums such as Bounty Hunter, Englishman and Robin Hood he was precisely at the transition from roots to the emerging dancehall and rub-a-dub sound. Levy’s melodic phrasing and distinctive vocal runs rest on spare, resilient riddims where reggae, rub-a-dub and early digital textures converge. In the 1980s and 1990s he built a steady stream of singles and recording sessions with Jamaican and British producers, while tracks like Here I Come and Under Mi Sensi remained staples in reggae and sound-system circles. His voice later also appeared in hip hop and dancehall collaborations, including alongside Bounty Killer and Shyne, allowing his repertoire to form a lasting bridge between Jamaica, the United Kingdom and North America. Live, he brings that catalogue together with more recent material, backed by a band that keeps the groove tight.
