Boy & Bear

Boy & Bear will play on 9 March 2026 at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. Since 2009 the five-piece led by singer‑guitarist Dave Hosking has been building its own blend of indie folk, alternative rock and melodic pop. With the first single “Mexican Mavis” and the EP With Emperor Antarctica the group put itself on the map in Australia, followed by tours of the UK and North America. Studio albums such as Moonfire (2011) and Harlequin Dream (2013) demonstrate their affection for tight vocal harmonies, the interweaving of acoustic and electric guitars and a smooth groove with a nod to the 1970s. On Limit of Love (2015), made with producer Ethan Johns, they opted for a more direct, live-oriented approach. Suck on Light (2019) explores more subdued shades, while the self-titled Boy & Bear (2023) focuses on layered arrangements in which keyboards, guitars and voices provide the foundation. Live, the band brings that whole period together: restrained folk, pulsing rhythms and melodic lines with room for harmonies, without losing the energy of a guitar-driven band.
