The Streets

The Streets will perform on 20 June 2026 at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The Streets is the project of Mike Skinner, the Brit from Birmingham who, since the early 2000s, has carved out a distinct place between rap, UK garage and electronic music. With his debut Original Pirate Material (2002) he set a tone that has remained recognizable: dry observations, everyday chronicle and beats that feel tight yet light on their feet. A Grand Don’t Come for Free (2004) marked a turning point, featuring Dry Your Eyes, Fit But You Know It and Blinded by the Lights — songs that have become defining tracks of the early 2000s in the UK.

That was followed by The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living (2006), Everything Is Borrowed (2008) and Computers and Blues (2011), after which came a hiatus and a restart in 2017. In 2023 The Streets returned with The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light, in which Skinner further refines his blend: raw spoken delivery, a UK garage feel and a sharp eye for detail. Live, it’s all about rhythm, storytelling and timing: direct lines, clubby grooves and that typically British take on the everyday that makes his tracks so instantly recognizable.
