Info
On 16 May 2026 at Baketown in Berlin, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Marlon Funaki brings a live set shaped by a lifelong curiosity for sound. Raised 40 miles east of Los Angeles in a multicultural, music-filled home, he grew up absorbing the records his father spun during everyday chores, tuning his ear to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd, alongside reggae, 70s Afro-funk and 90s hip-hop. That palette, more than his early training in school symphonic and marching bands, drives his writing today: elastic grooves, fuzzed guitars, airy melodies and basslines with funk and dub inflections, with shoegaze textures floating over hip-hop-steeped rhythms. On stage he shifts between instruments and voice, layering parts, bending tones and letting songs evolve from intimate sketches to wider, pulsing soundscapes. This Berlin date distills that range of influences into a focused, contemporary live show at Baketown.
