Nils Wülker Quartet: Zuversicht – Live

On May 1, 2026, trumpeter and composer Nils Wülker will perform with his quartet at the Kulturetage in Oldenburg. Under the title Zuversicht – Live (Optimism – Live), he places the melody at the center: distinctive themes, a clear trumpet sound, and pieces that oscillate between song form and open improvisation. Since the 2000s, Wülker has been exploring a contemporary jazz informed by soul, funk, and pop grooves. In the quartet these influences are tightly concentrated: pulsating patterns, nu-jazz colours, and recurring motifs that unfold layer by layer.

The acoustic foundation of piano or keys, bass and drums provides support, while Wülker’s lines tell focused stories—angular and yet lyrical. The set blends structured hooks with room for solos, plays with dynamics, and lets sonic textures breathe. Between acoustic grounding and subtly electric textures a flexible band sound emerges, one that foregrounds timing and interplay. An evening in which the quartet reveals its signature: song orientation, clear forms, open edges—and a trumpet that keeps the common thread.
