Info
On 16 April 2026 The Twilight Sad will play at Gretchen in Berlin. The band from Kilsyth, Scotland has been combining indie rock with post-punk, shoegaze and noise since the 2000s: distorted guitars, dark synths, driving rhythms and James Graham’s vocals delivered with a pronounced Scottish accent. Formed around Graham and guitarist/composer Andy MacFarlane, the group has gradually shifted its sound — from the rough anthems of Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters through the cooler, electronically-tinged textures of No One Can Ever Know to the darker, more direct songs of It Won’t Be Like This All the Time on Mogwai’s Rock Action label. In concert The Twilight Sad build dense layers of sound in which melodies emerge slowly and tension is created between noise and silence. The band has toured the UK, Europe and North America and has supported, among others, Mogwai and The Cure — a trajectory reflected in the interplay of post-punk heritage, introspective lyrics and synth-driven textures. On this date, Berlin will be treated to a focused journey through nearly two decades of the band’s history.
