For more than five decades, Blue Öyster Cult has shaped a thoughtful strain of hard rock that moves between psychedelia, proto–heavy metal and sharp, melodic riffcraft. Formed on Long Island at the end of the 1960s, the band set its course with early albums like the 1972 debut, Tyranny and Mutation and Secret Treaties, then broke wider with Agents of Fortune and Spectres. On stage, the current lineup centers on founders Eric Bloom and Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, channeling the narratives and guitar lines behind (Don’t Fear) The Reaper, Godzilla and Burnin’ for You. The group has stayed active through to The Symbol Remains in 2020.
