Dick Valentine

Born in Pittsburgh in 1972 and based in Detroit's scene, Tyler Spencer, performing under the name Dick Valentine, has built a career spanning offbeat rock, dance-punk, synth-pop and more acoustic formats. He co-founded Electric Six in 1996, a band where his voice and lyrics occupy a central place, in a register that blends garage energy, danceable rhythms and absurd humor. In parallel, Dick Valentine has participated in several projects, notably the duo Evil Cowards with William Bates, oriented toward dark and ironic synth-pop, as well as collaborations with Bang Camaro and The Dirty Shame. His solo trajectory, launched in the early 2010s, shows another facet of his writing, with sparser songs, between folk, anti-folk and acoustic rock. Under his name, Dick Valentine released several albums, including Destroy the Children (2012), Halloween Fingers (2013), Here Come the Bags! (2015), Quiet Time (2016), Robocalls (2017), Illuminati Bees (2019), Parrot People (2020), Coma Watching (2021), This Is Hell! (2023) and Do You Notice? (2024). This parallel activity extends his anchoring in the American indie rock circuit, between club concerts, self-produced projects and regular crossovers with other musicians from alternative scenes.
