Info
On February 18, 2027, Sampa The Great arrives in Paris, at Badaboum, for a concert that traverses her multiple lives between Southern Africa and Australia. Born in Zambia and having spent time in Botswana, she has built rap that is incisive and highly musical, nourished by spoken word, soul, jazz, gospel, and African influences, with writing that always keeps an eye on identity, transmission, and displacement.
On stage, her precise flow and the diction of a poet rest on a choir-like energy, on sung refrains, and on rhythms that can tilt from sharp hip-hop to more organic textures. Following the impact of The Return and the assertive turn of As Above, So Below, inspired by her return to Zambia and by Zamrock, she comes to defend a repertoire where roots and the international respond to each other without forcing it, with this way of cohabiting the political, the intimate, and the party.
