On September 24, 2026, Blue Note London hosts the Grand Opening with Robert Glasper, a pianist and producer who’s spent the last two decades blurring the lines between contemporary jazz and the sounds that shaped the 2000s and beyond. Coming out of Houston and New York’s New School, he built his reputation on trio records where post-bop language meets a tight, rhythm-first feel, then opened the palette with the Robert Glasper Experiment, bringing in electric colors, vocals and beat-driven structures.
Expect a set where improvisation doesn’t float in the abstract: it locks into grooves, hooks and song-like forms, with that elastic touch that lets jazz harmony sit naturally next to hip-hop, R&B and soul. From the Black Radio era to later crossover projects, Glasper’s music is all about the conversation between the bandstand and the studio, and this night in London is a good chance to hear that dialogue live, up close.
