On 19 November 2026 at Union Chapel in London, Bongeziwe Mabandla brings his intimate afro-folk back on stage, carried by a voice that sits right between tenderness and tension. He sings mostly in isiXhosa, yet the songs never feel locked behind language: the melodies, the phrasing and the quiet pulse do the talking, and the emotion lands instantly.
Raised in Tsolo in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, he grew up with church choirs and folk songs in the background before picking up a guitar as a teenager and drifting from drama school into songwriting. Since Umlilo (2012), his music has kept that stripped-back core: acoustic lines, close harmonies, and a sense of storytelling that stays personal without losing its weight.
A big part of his sound comes from his long-running collaboration with Mozambican producer and instrumentalist Tiago Correia-Paulo, who frames Mabandla’s guitar and tenor with subtle electronics and slow-building textures. From Mangaliso to iimini and amaXesha, the set promises songs that move like a conversation: minimal, warm, and quietly addictive.
