The Mary Wallopers bring their Dundalk-born folk to OVO Hydro, Glasgow on 19 December 2026. Led by brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy with Sean McKenna, the group digs into Irish ballads with rough-grained harmonies, banjo-led riffs and a pub-room pulse. On stage, the original trio widens with extra players, shifting from backroom singalongs to full-bodied trad energy. Their set moves between sharp social tales, dry humour and hand-me-down melodies, pulling from their self-titled 2022 album and Irish Rock ’n’ Roll (2023) alongside reworked standards. Call-and-response vocals, stomping rhythms and stories that travel well give their show the feel of a session lifted from a corner bar to a big room, without polishing away the grit.
Also on the bill, The Coral trace a different line from the Wirral, mixing indie rock with psych-folk, jangle and a touch of Merseybeat. Active since the late 90s, they’ve built a catalogue that runs from Magic and Medicine to Coral Island and Sea of Mirrors. On stage, their songs lean on oblique hooks, close-knit harmonies and an easy groove that pairs neatly with folk-leaning storytellers. Two bands, two ways of folding tradition into the present.
