On 10 November 2026, O2 Institute Birmingham hosts a double bill led by Igorrr, the shape-shifting project of French composer Gautier Serre. Since the mid-2000s, he has woven breakcore, extreme metal, baroque motifs and industrial electronics into a patchwork of sharp contrasts: chopped rhythms, sudden accelerations, black and death metal riffs, neoclassical detours and voices that switch between operatic clarity and saturated growls. From early demos Poisson Soluble and Moisissure to albums like Nostril, Hallelujah, Savage Sinusoid and Spirituality and Distortion, Igorrr has built a language that lives best on stage, where the project expands into a full band and pushes the interplay of tension and release.
Sharing the bill, Shining (SE) brings the Swedish strain of doom and depressive black metal forged since 1996. The band’s sound balances glacial riffs, weighted tempos and vocals that cut through the mix with stark intensity, channeling bleak atmospheres into tight, unvarnished songs. Together, Igorrr and Shining (SE) draw two distinct lines through the heavier, more experimental edges of metal for a night at O2 Institute Birmingham that leans into contrast and catharsis.
