Info
Formed in the late 90s in New York around Ukrainian singer-guitarist Eugene Hütz, Gogol Bordello blends punk urgency with Balkan folk, where violin and accordion lock in with rugged guitar lines. Multilingual lyrics in English, Ukrainian, Russian and Romani explore exile, migration and life in diaspora, a thread that runs from Voi-La Intruder and Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike to Super Taranta!, Trans-Continental Hustle and, more recently, Solidaritine. On stage, the band leans into that mix with tight, percussive grooves, quick shifts between ska, dub-tinged passages and straight-ahead rock, and refrains made for collective shout-backs. Hütz drives the songs with clipped acoustic strums and a talk-sung bite, while strings carry the hooks and the rhythm section keeps everything tense and mobile. Gogol Bordello plays History Ottawa in Ottawa on September 30, 2026, with a set tracing their path from Lower East Side clubs to a cross-border sound shaped for live rooms and constant motion.
