Info

On 6 July 2026, the Jazz à Vienne festival brings together two artists who illuminate West African music at the Théâtre Antique in Vienne. Angélique Kidjo and Fatoumata Diawara share the bill for an evening that highlights singular voices, personal songwriting, and careers enriched by exchanges between continents.

Beninese artist Angélique Kidjo has for years developed a repertoire in which West African traditions engage with contemporary sounds. Her singing, supported by rooted rhythms and modern arrangements, crosses borders without losing its connection to her roots.

Born in Ivory Coast to Malian parents, Fatoumata Diawara is an actress, singer and composer. Her clear voice and guitar drive songs that blend the intimate and the collective, with spare writing and direct melodies. On stage she projects a restrained presence, attentive to nuance and responsive to the audience.

Sharing the bill, they offer two complementary visions of a scene in motion, between heritage and contemporary creation.
