Info
On 9 March 2026, L’Olympia Paris opened its stage to a chiaroscuro encounter between a kora and a guitar, between the Mandingue flow and stripped-down folk. Ballaké Sissoko and Piers Faccini sketched a sensitive line there, where each note breathes and leaves room for listening. A concert conceived as a dialogue, simple and precise, that lets melodies circulate without exaggeration.
Ballaké Sissoko, a master of the kora from Bamako, advances on quiet feet. His right hand pulses the rhythm, his left unfolds supple motifs inherited from the Mandingue repertoire. He plays with space as much as with the strings, establishing a gentle trance, evoking the memory of the griots and a discreet modernity. His instrument shimmers, between clear arpeggios, a sustained drone and interlacing lines.
Opposite him, Piers Faccini lays down a mellow voice and a guitar with delicate fingerpicking. A singer-songwriter with a wandering ear, he crosses British folk, unadorned blues, and Mediterranean inflections. The songs move forward in measured steps, carried by precise phrasing, spare harmonies and a vocal timbre that seems fused with the guitar’s wood.
Together, they find common ground: a restrained tempo, melodies at human scale, silences that matter. At L’Olympia Paris, this austerity expands without losing its intimacy, for a set where borders fade in favour of a musical conversation in two voices and twenty-one strings.
