Info
Jacob Banks comes to Cologne on March 9, 2027, to Kantine Kulturbetrieb, bringing with him a distinctive mix that seamlessly pulls together soul, R&B, pop, and gospel. At the center is his deep, distinctive voice, which stays close even as the arrangements grow larger: guitars, horns, and electronic textures interlock, sometimes serving as a warm bed for ballads, other times providing drive for more propulsive songs.
Those who discovered him through his EPs The Monologue or The Paradox will hear here how his songwriting has continued to open up — from cinematically constructed moments to pieces that allow blues inflections. By now, since Village and Lies About The War, Banks leans more on clear lines, choirs, and a directness that works particularly well live: less ornament, more tension in delivery. An evening for all who enjoy contemporary soul that doesn’t sound polished but reveals edges and character.
