On May 25, 2027, Steel Pulse takes the stage at Atabal in Biarritz to celebrate 50 years of militant reggae. Formed in 1975 in Birmingham, in the Handsworth district, the band has built an edgy roots sound, propelled by a solid bass, tight off-beats, and vocal harmonies that bridge Jamaican heritage with the energy of the United Kingdom. On stage, Steel Pulse maintains this direct approach to addressing the issues that matter: racism, inequality, the realities of the Black diaspora, and social justice. Their history also unfolds in the context of the late 1970s, when reggae crossed paths with punk and the battles of Rock Against Racism. With tracks that have become classics such as Rally Round the Flag and Roller Skates, and a Grammy won in 1986, the band led by David Hinds continues to move forward without disguising itself, between political urgency and grooves tailored for the live show.
