Info
On May 5, 2027, at The Glasshouse – International Centre for Music in Gateshead, Richard Thompson brings his long-running folk-rock story to the stage, guitar in hand and songs built to travel well in a live room. First known for his late-60s work with Fairport Convention, he’s spent decades shaping a personal lane where acoustic ballads meet sharp electric playing, with echoes of English folk traditions rubbing up against rock and country turns.
Expect the set to move between intimate storytelling and tighter, band-ready drive, the kind of writing that likes a dark corner but never loses its sense of rhythm or detail. With a catalogue that stretches from early solo work through key albums like I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight, Rumor and Sigh, Mock Tudor, Electric and 13 Rivers, Thompson’s show is less about nostalgia than about how these songs still breathe when they’re played straight, loud, and close.
