The Jayhawks are coming to SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen on September 21, 2026, with their characteristic Minneapolis sound: alternative country and roots rock that leans as much on folk rock as on sturdy country rock. Expect songs in which those famous multi-part vocal harmonies are central, sometimes very bare and acoustic, then again with richer arrangements that slowly unfold.
Since the late 1980s the band around Gary Louris and Mark Olson built a catalog that fans have followed from the breakthrough albums Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass to the later, darker and more layered course on Sound of Lies and Smile. Afterward they shifted back to a more intimate approach on Rainy Day Music. The reunion around Mockingbird Time proved how smoothly that songwriter chemistry can return, and on recent work such as Paging Mr. Proust, Back Roads and Abandoned Motels, and XOXO you hear how the band distributes the writing and singing among multiple members without losing the core. This concert, therefore, will not be a nostalgic stop, but an evening in which old and new mingle effortlessly.
