On February 18, 2027, The Egyptian Lover lands at The Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow with his straight-to-the-floor take on West Coast electro. Active since the early ’80s in Los Angeles, Greg Broussard came up as a DJ in the Uncle Jamm’s Army universe, where hip-hop parties and machine rhythms shaped a whole scene. On stage, expect that signature mix: tight programmed beats, looping synth lines, and spoken, half-sung vocals that sit somewhere between minimalist rap and electro-funk.
His mid-’80s run still defines the vibe, from On the Nile to One Track Mind and Filthy, with their club-coded hooks and futuristic imagery. But this isn’t a museum set: his later records, including Platinum Pyramids and the deliberately old-school 1984 and 1985, keep the same direct, no-frills approach. A live show that plays like a moving timeline of LA electro, built for dancing, not nostalgia.
