On 26 September 2026, corto.alto lands at Blue Note London with the kind of set that lives in the grey zone between a jazz gig and a late-night club session. Led by Glasgow composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, the project bends contemporary jazz toward electronica, hip-hop and soul without losing the tension of improvisation.
Expect dense, groove-forward pieces where brass lines and live playing lock in with beats and studio-style textures, shifting from open, free moments to tighter, produced passages. It’s modern UK jazz with a collective mindset: everyone pushing the same pulse, everyone leaving space for the music to breathe.
After making noise on the new British scene and picking up recognition at the Jazz FM Awards in 2025, corto.alto comes to London ready to show how these hybrid compositions hit in the room: physical, detailed, and built for bodies as much as for ears.
