A purveyor of Colombian music and tradition, this 11‑piece orchestra operates in the realm of cumbia. Nourished by turn‑of‑the‑century jazz and faithful to the heritage of composer Lucho Bermúdez, the musicians of this ensemble have blended the tradition of yesteryear to offer a modern and authentic result with the sweet flavors of days gone by.
Few European ensembles have earned the renown of Cumbia Ya!. In recent years, cumbia, a popular expression in Latin America, has found its place on the programs of French national stages, with Théâtre de Caen, the Besançon International Festival, and the Opéra de Lyon placing their trust in this orchestra, which deftly handles both the popular aspects and the elegance of the writing of this music still little known in the orchestral format. A genre and format that appeals equally to young and old and enables the generational exchange demanded by this adventure.
In twenty years of existence, Cumbia Ya!'s music has formed around the compositions of the orchestra's musicians. In residence at the Studio de l’Ermitage for more than 18 years, it is there that their compositions have taken shape in harmony with the audience. It is there that you will be able to see and hear the group, vibrate to its sound and to the anecdotes that the generosity and charisma of this orchestra bring to the stage.
