New York-based musician Laraaji has been carving out his own lane since the 1970s, starting as a street performer and building long, trance-leaning improvisations on a modified autoharp, pushed through electronic effects. That open-air approach never really left his music: it’s still rooted in repetition, resonance, and a slow sense of movement that sits somewhere between ambient, minimalism, and meditative traditions.
A turning point came when Brian Eno caught him playing in Washington Square Park and invited him into the studio, leading to Ambient 3: Day of Radiance and placing Laraaji inside a wider experimental conversation. From there, he kept releasing a steady stream of records, often self-made and originally shared hand to hand on cassette, before a new wave of reissues and fresh recordings brought renewed attention to his catalog.
On 9 September 2026, Laraaji plays EartH in London for a set that promises deep listening, luminous drones, and spacious improvisation where time feels pleasantly stretched.
