Pokey LaFarge lands in Dublin on March 9, 2027 at the Button Factory with his distinctive blend of folk, early jazz, country blues and swing, inherited from American itinerant songwriters. Born in Illinois, long based in St. Louis, he has built a repertoire that smells of the road: travel stories, characters encountered along the way, a supple voice that can both caress and groove, and a very direct way of keeping traditions alive without freezing them.
Noticed in the early 2010s with Riverboat Soul and Middle of Everywhere, then through Third Man Records, LaFarge gradually broadened his range: more electricity and edge on Something in the Water and Manic Revelations, followed by an openness toward pop tones, rhythm and blues and Latin influences on Rock Bottom Rhapsody, In the Blossom of Their Shade and Rhumba Country. On stage, all of this translates into songs that dance, precise arrangements and a sense of rhythm that links past and present, without a façade of nostalgia.
