Nouvelle Vague

Born in Paris in the early 2000s, Nouvelle Vague made their name by recasting punk and new wave standards in a bossa nova mood. In 2027, the collective pivots again with A Date with Depeche Mode, a seventh album devoted entirely to one band for the first time. Thirteen Depeche Mode tracks are stripped back and reimagined by new voices. Recorded in Rio with Brazilian musicians, the project sets up a conversation between Brazil’s musical pulse and the dark pop DNA of Depeche Mode, filtered through the Nouvelle Vague touch.

On stage, expect close-up guitars and percussion, voices front and center, and arrangements that trade drum machines for subtle groove. Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus and other staples take on a softer grain without losing their tension. The first single, a duet of Enjoy the Silence featuring Skye Edwards (Morcheeba) and Larry Love (Alabama 3), hints at the album’s direction: intimate, precise, and quietly kinetic.
