Jahneration

On April 1, 2027, Jahneration takes over Le Transbordeur in Villeurbanne. Formed in Paris by Thëo and Ogach, the duo traded their punk rock beginnings for a reggae sound threaded with hip-hop and touches of dancehall. Since 2009 they have written and sung in English mixed with Jamaican patois, sometimes in French, shaping a sound where a roots vibe rubs against more digital textures. Their trajectory includes a recording at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston and a string of notable collaborations with Alborosie, Queen Omega, Manu Chao, Naâman, Dub Inc and Danakil. On record as well as on stage—from their eponymous 2016 album to Stuck in the Middle and then Higher—Jahneration has broadened its palette: melodic choruses, rapped flows, uptempo instrumentals and more introspective passages. Live, surrounded by their musicians, they build a set conceived for the audience, balancing deep bass, precise skanks and hip-hop breaks, faithful to a modern francophone reggae scene that looks as much to Kingston as to Paris.
