Info
Hyperdub began in 2000 as a fanzine, became a label in 2004 — and has since shaped electronic music. Steve Goodman, aka Kode9, originally wanted “sub bass and slightly off-kilter beats that are a little bit sad in tone.” Then, as Goodman himself put it, the label “went a bit haywire”: Burial anchored emotion in club music with Untrue (2007). DJ Rashad brought Chicago’s footwork to Europe with Double Cup. Kode9, together with The Spaceape on Memories of the Future (2006), showed where bass can go when it abandons dancefloor logic: a dystopian audio drama rather than a club record. There is also a high proportion of women on the roster — not a deliberate policy, but the result of a particular stance. At the Enjoy Jazz Festival Hyperdub is represented by two current voices: aya, whose hexed! (2025) makes addiction and trauma audible, and Ikonika, who translates queerness, transness and neurodivergence into musical structure on SAD (2025). The concert takes place on 16 October 2026 at 6 p.m. at Karlstorbahnhof.
