Info
On 7 March 2027, Pedro Abrunhosa is at the Trianon in Paris. Trained in composition and double bass, having come up through the Portuguese jazz scene of the 1980s and as a co‑founder of the Porto Jazz School, he turned to song with Bandemónio and Viagens (1994). Since then, Tempo, Silêncio, Momento, Luz, Longe, Contramão and Espiritual have established a way of working in which voice and piano lead the dance, between pop, soul, funk and rhythm and blues, with writing nourished by jazz. On stage he alternates relaxed grooves, arrangements with an orchestral sweep and rockier passages, allowing the melodies and lyrics to breathe. His roots in Porto and in the Portuguese language run through both the ballads and the more urban tracks. A composer for film and theatre, having appeared in the work of Manoel de Oliveira, he has also crossed paths with Maceo Parker, Carlos do Carmo, Rui Veloso and Caetano Veloso — collaborations that have broadened his sonic terrain. At the Trianon he draws on this repertoire for a concert centred on voice, piano and a rhythm section that maintains the tension.
