FORM brings a double bill to Chalk, Brighton on 17 September 2026: Boston’s Vundabar and Yot Club, the project of American musician Ryan Kaiser, plus special guests.
Vundabar draws on indie rock with surf accents, post-punk edges and off-kilter pop, carried by Brandon Hagen’s nasal vocals and cutting guitars alongside Drew McDonald’s drums. First noticed on DIY circuits in the early 2010s, the band moved from the lo-fi directness of Antics and Gawk to Smell Smoke, which tackles grief, mental health and family dynamics. Either Light widened the palette with keyboards and softer textures, and Devil for the Fire explored darker, nervier terrain with sudden tempo shifts. On stage the core duo, joined by a bassist, keeps a tight, kinetic set built on contrasts and compact hooks.
Yot Club took shape in late-2010s home recordings between Mississippi and Nashville, where Kaiser mixes indie and bedroom pop with light surf and new wave traces. Clean, lightly saturated guitars ride simple, looping rhythms while a soft-spoken vocal brings a close-miked feel. The track YKWIM? spread widely online, paving the way for the 2022 album off the grid, which leaned into faster tempos and melodic post-punk contours. Live, Yot Club becomes a full band, trading the bedroom hush for a more energetic delivery of songs about daily life, suburban drift and the urge to get out.
