Schubert Schubert (Partyszene)

On 15 August 2026 at Bold Tendencies, London, 12 Ensemble brings Schubert into focus with Schubert Schubert (PARTYSZENEN). For this date, the group pares back to its principal players to perform the String Quartet No. 15 in G major in the original scoring. This chamber set-up draws out the quartet’s shifting energies: lines that bloom then fracture, sudden silences, and textures that swing from lean to full without breaking the flow. Heard up close, the writing feels both spacious and restless, each part stepping forward, then folding back into the weave.

The programme opens with PARTYSZENEN by composer Isabella Gellis, a new work written with Schubert in mind. Gellis follows the idea of a “serene delusion”, tracing states that hover between ease and uncertainty. Set against the Quartet No. 15, her piece frames the concert like a prologue, tilting the ear toward contrast and change. Throughout the concert, 12 Ensemble moves between collective pulse and intimate exchange, keeping Schubert’s voice present while making room for a present-day reply.
