In the Round: Herbert & Momoko

Matthew Herbert and Momoko Gill bring an intimate in-the-round performance to ICA Bookstore, London on 9 June 2026. Electronic producer Matthew Herbert and drummer-vocalist Momoko Gill dive into the world of their collaborative album Clay (Strut, 2025), shifting between dancefloor pulse and quieter early-hours moods.

Built around Herbert’s agile production and Gill’s melodic writing, the set is stripped-back yet rhythmically detailed, drawing on found sources — from Japanese kotos to the thud of basketballs — to keep the sound tactile and organic. On stage, original sampling techniques meet live drums, small objects and voice, with improvisation shaping the flow. Gill’s intimate vocals carry tracks like Mowing and the duet Heart, while Herbert threads house-rooted grooves, granular textures and sudden changes of colour. Surrounded by the audience, the pair build pieces layer by layer, blurring studio craft and live play in real time.

A focused encounter between two boundary-pushing UK artists, this show traces a line from Around The House to new terrain, reworking Clay for a room within arm’s reach.
